UTERINE FIBROIDS
Understand your options
Fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop from uterine muscle. Some cause no symptoms; others contribute to heavy or prolonged bleeding, pelvic pressure, urinary frequency, pain, anemia, or reproductive concerns.
The size and location of fibroids matter, but so do your symptoms and goals. Treatment is not automatically necessary simply because a fibroid is present.
Evaluation
Ultrasound is commonly used to evaluate the uterus and determine the number, size, and location of fibroids. Additional testing may be recommended based on symptoms and treatment planning.
Treatment
Options may include monitoring, medication, hormonal treatment, hysteroscopic removal of certain fibroids, other procedures, or surgery. We explain which approaches fit your anatomy, symptoms, and future pregnancy plans.
